When you are in Tokyo and want to enjoy a beautiful place, one place that must be considered is the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. The garden was originally residence of Naito family in the Edo period. Now the garden is under the jurisdiction of national Ministry of Environment.
The gardens are a short walk from Shinjuku-gyoemmae Station on the Marunouchi Line or Sendagaya Station. The gardens have three access gates, Shinjuku Gate, Okido Gate and Sendagaya Gate. On Mondays the gardens are closed, except during the cherry blossom and chrysanthemum seasons – late March-late April and early November respectively, when the gardens are open seven days a week.
The area of the garden is more than 58 hectares with a circumference of 3.5 kilometers. The garden is build with three distinct styles, French Formal, English Landscape and Japanese traditional. There are more than 20,000 trees including over 1500 cherry trees. Cherry trees blooms from late March to early April, and on to late April.
