Historical Facts About Tokyo

In 1603, Ieyasu Tokugawa established his government in Edo by winning the battle of Sekigahara in 1600. Kyoto was the official capital of Edo but people and economy started to gather in the new city in the east. Ieyasu and his successors kept on ruling the country for about 2 era.

The emperor moved to Edo in 1868 and renamed the city to Tokyo. After this Tokyo became the official capital of the Japan. For curiosity and for the competition with western countries, people of Japan started to adopt the western culture and way of living. This causes the beginning of steam engines and telecommunication services in Japan.
